My research question is going to be: What are the dangers of drinking alcohol? I want to go in-depth of the obvious dangers such as drunk driving, incarceration, and poisoning, and also the not so obvious ones like premature birth defects and liver/physical diseases. The purpose is to educate people so they can possibly prevent an addiction to alcohol and hurting themselves and others. The audience is wide ranged from young teens to adults, basically anyone that comes in contact with alcohol. I fit in because I am a young adult. As an incoming college freshman, I know I will be faced with the pressure to drink and will see the dangers of alcohol through peers.
I do not understand the second part of this assignment from the syllabus. I just got very confused when it said to analyze the rhetorical situation of WP#1 and how it differs from WP#3. The only thing that I can kind of guess is that WP#1 discusses how the audience can relate to my topic and that WP#3 discusses how I need to fully research answers to any questions that might refute my position. Throughout my research I will need ask questions that someone might ask to counter-argue the topic.

I don't know what kind of research has been done on it, but you also might want to include how it affects the families of alcoholics.
I agree with you Amanda on being confused about the whole WP#1 difference to WP#3. I have read the syllbus on them about ten times and still no closer to understanding it. Sorry it's no help but at least you know your not alone. Also Jessica has a point. I have experience on this matter. Alcohol does have effects on the family.
I also struggled with the understanding of audiences between WP#1 and WP#3. I differentiated between the two as that I am proposing how to research a topic with my classmates and teacher as the audience (I will need their feedback to ensure my topic is debatable.) and I'll be presenting the final research to an intended audience who's opinions I will hope to influence. Does this help?
