DL2 Ch.3 Connecting to Your Writing: What's Important To You?

The main things people I am surrounded by talk about are the current events going on locally and globally. Usually it depends on the setting of where I am and who I am talking to. If I am at work, we talk about what's going on like our Talent Show coming up or how to increase sales. When I was at school we talked about graduation, summer, and our plans for college.
The raising of minimum wage has left many people with questions. Why did it need to be raised so high? Before minimum wage increased, my job started higher ($7/hr) than most places which was nice because I was making more money. Now that wages increased, everyone who was paid lower than $6.75 now gets paid more. That is not fair to the people who were getting paid higher because now inflation has also went up. My co-workers and myself feel that our money doesn't go as far now. At the first of the year, our company announced that they might increase the starting rate because they wanted to pay their employees higher than the standard. This never happened. We recently talked to our regional manager and asked if the company would ever raise the starting wage and the answer was "not likely". Since minimum wage only increased in Arizona, the company, which is based out of California, decided that they do not make enough revenue from sales in Arizona. Basically, they aren't too concerned with our problem.
